The best therapists are genuine, insightful, and compassionate. I bring empathy, common sense, and 35 years of licensed professional experience to exploring your life situation. As I listen, interact and guide, I will help you challenge self-defeating thoughts and actions. This will allow you to develop relationships based upon integrity, courage, and openness. As we build trust and mutual respect together, the results are deeper intimacy and lasting change.

As a relationship therapist, I use research-backed approaches to help individuals and couples explore emotional patterns to find lasting solutions. I have experience with a wide range of issues, including communication, anger, sexuality, depression and loss. I've taught communication classes for couples at Kaiser Medical Center and Solano College. Happily married for many years, my wife and I have three adult children and five grandchildren.

The Duration and Frequency of Therapy

In our initial meeting an important question for us to discuss is whether we appear to be a good match for each other to move forward with a therapy relationship.
Based on the therapy goals we also decide how frequently to meet. Most clients begin with weekly meetings, moving to biweekly meetings after some progress has been made. Others find that biweekly meetings work best from the start.
The duration of the therapy can also vary depending on clients' goals. Some request a focus on brief problem solving and finish their work in 6 or 8 sessions. Other, seeking a deeper understanding of emotional patterns and their effect on relationships and work life, may continue the process for many months.
