Mental Health in San Antonio, TX

San Antonio is home to about 1.5 million residents. A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report revealed that in 2016, 12.5% of San Antonio adults experienced more than 14 days of poor mental health in the past month. According to the same report, 17.4% of adults engaged in binge drinking at some point, a rate .5% higher than that of the United States population.

According to the 2016 Bexar County Community Health Needs Assessment, rates of mental health hospitalization have risen since 2010, especially among youth. In 2014, Bexar county saw 87.3 individuals under age 18 hospitalized for mental health issues as opposed to 64.5 individuals in 2010. The rate of suicide has remained fairly stable in Bexar County, with 207 deaths to suicide in 2016. Ages 15 to 24 saw the greatest increase in deaths to suicide during this time.
