My Approach to Helping
Life transitions, loss, relationships, failure, rejection, breakups, isolation, family conflict, low self-esteem, shame, and anxiety can make you feel trapped in a cycle of pain. When faced with adversity, it's easy to feel like you have no control over your circumstances or the way that you feel. You may feel stuck in old patterns of thinking, feeling, or behaving, but are unsure of how to change. I offer a warm and supportive environment while helping you discover that you do in fact have the power to feel differently. As your sense of agency grows, so does your ability to make choices that lead you to a life of joy and fulfillment.
As a clinician who practices Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), together we discover your power to change what's in your control while emphasizing that our interpretations of events strongly contribute to painful feelings. We work together to learn how to identify, examine, challenge, and alter unhelpful beliefs and behaviors so you can develop the freedom to choose the way you want to think, feel, and behave. While different problems require different strategies for help, I tend to take an active, directive, and present-focused approach to therapy. I also emphasize the vital role that homework plays in helping you apply the insights gained in therapy to your everyday life, so that you can find relief from painful emotions as quickly as possible.
