My Approach to Helping
At times we can feel so overwhelmed by emotions that our natural instinct is to simply shut down. We feel no one understands us and that if we tell someones they will either dismiss it or tell us to just get over it. Other times, we don’t want to share what we are feeling because we do not want to burden those close to us. This only further validates either that what we are feeling is not important and that nobody cares. When we don’t acknowledge or process the pain we feel, our overwhelmed self may lash out or act in a behavior that is either destructive towards the self or others. We lose patience. I work with individuals who are feeling at a loss and keep hitting dead ends because of the challenges they are facing.
