Hello, I am Dr. Nanci Carter and I am dedicated to working with adults — across the lifespan — who are seeking to make changes in their lives and improve their relationships. If people understood the important changes that depth work can create, it would help them make a meaningful choice for themselves. But that is often the problem, isn't it? Our difficulties can seem overwhelming and repetitious. Perhaps you wonder why you can't speak your truth. Maybe you experienced abuse or neglect as a child. You may tell yourself that “it’s all in the past", yet it is somehow woven through your current dilemmas and troubled relationships — and continues to cause you pain and distress. Because our memory is shaped through emotional experience, insight alone does not go deeply enough to make the desired changes - feeling your experience with another goes hand in hand with understanding. Our ways of being with others, laid down in childhood, can be understood and re-structured within the psychotherapy relationship.

My way of working with you is interactive and relational. I listen for how your present difficulties and unconscious patterns may be affected by your history - and together we explore your experience and where you have felt stuck. Psychotherapy can allow you the space to tell your story - to yourself and to another. The painful patterns of living that hold you back will find the necessary attention and understanding. It has been my experience that by remembering and feeling - in a safe environment with another - we can discover our true selves and live more fully. For over 20 years, I have worked with individuals who experience a range of life problems: depression, anxiety, trauma, self-defeating patterns, troubled relationships, inability to connect with others, grief and loss.
