My Approach to Helping
I work with people who struggle with anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. Those who seek help may also suffer from a sense of disconnection or find themselves repeating unhealthy patterns despite their best effort to change. What many fail to realize is that these symptoms and patterns are often trying to tell us about something essential within ourselves that we had to push aside in our effort to get along and succeed, or they can reflect traumatic experiences from our past that had been too overwhelming to assimilate. Often the original meanings are buried deep within our unconscious with only these symptoms as a trace.
I am trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy, which helps us understand how formative experiences led to the development of these fixed symptoms and behaviors, and Bioenergetic Analysis, where breathing and movement can be utilized to bring to the surface emotions and experiences that fell out of awareness when we lost contact with our body’s sensations.
In therapy, we seek to understand what our symptoms are trying to tell us, and we risk experiencing those threatening feelings that our symptoms have tried to protect us from. Only then can we find the freedom to pursue a more creative and meaningful life. I would love to help guide you in this important endeavor.
