My Approach to Helping

If you are here, you may feel tired and lost. The decision to come to therapy is not an easy one as it involves taking a chance, being vulnerable, and being courageous. Sharing your life with a complete stranger can feel really weird. Just know that if you are thinking this way, it is quite normal, we totally get it.

We do care, we genuinely want to help, and our goal is to create an environment of acceptance for all of our clients.

More Info About My Practice

Therapy at Suffolk DBT focuses on finding solutions to problems rather than focusing on the problem. Our practice offers help for the whole family. We offer individual therapy, group therapy, family treatment, We are a group of trained , committed therapists who work as a team. We meet weekly for consultation, offer skills coaching between sessions, and walk where angels fear to tread.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

Individuals who engage in self harm or suicidal ideation, as DBT was developed to address these issues. We receive referrals from schools, colleagues, and hospitals for the cases that are deemed as "difficult."

How Psychotherapy Can Help

DBT offers alternatiave ways to manage feelings, deal with painful situations, and to improve relationships. These skills are taught in a caring treatment relationship that recognizes an individual's strengths, understands their emotional sensitivity, and offers practical and powerful ways to build a life worth living.

Components of DBT:
DBT includes individual therapy, skills training group, skills coaching by phone between sessions, and a treatment team concept.

DBT skills training groups are more like classes than traditional therapy groups. The goal is to teach DBT skills in an efficient and effective manner, using examples and problems taken from the present. Skills are taught in the areas of Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Interpersonal Effectiveness, and Emotion Regulation.
