My Approach to Helping

I grew up in a very diet-focused household. I knew what calories were by the time I was five years old and was put on my first diet by age nine. I grew up in a world that constantly told me that my body was wrong. My eating disorder felt inevitable and recovery felt impossible. But, I found my freedom from my eating disorder which inspired me to become a therapist to help others find peace with food and body image.

I have been trained in many evidence based therapies such as CBT-E, CBT-AR, DBT and FBT but I enjoy taking a more eclectic approach that is tailored to your needs and goals in YOUR recovery. Therapy is not a one size fits all and your lived experiences are just as important as the modalities used to reduce symptoms and behaviors.

My experiences of dieting, eating disorders, living in a larger body, and being active in sports that highlight aesthetics has made me empathetic and compassionate to the struggles that you may be facing. Eating disorders are complex and often come with feelings of anxiety, perfectionism, depression, and struggles with self esteem.

If you are tired of fighting your body or having a mental battle around food lets work together to create freedom from those chains that are holding you down. I work with adults and older adolescents. I enjoy working with athletes who are trying to navigate the expectations of their sport and being able to thrive in recovery.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

I find myself relating to what my clients share about their struggles with their own challenges. Yes, evidence based therapy is great, and also knowing what it truly is like to live the day to day with an eating disorder has made me more empathetic and understanding to my client's needs. Being able to validate your experiences can help make your goals feel more attainable in our work together.
