My Approach to Helping
With 25 years of experience working with children, couples, and individuals who have experienced trauma, I understand how this impacts them and their family members.
Harriet Zeikowitz is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) who has 25 years of experienceworking with biological parents, adoptive parents, foster parents, and the children in their lives. From her rich experience in creating home studies for pre-adoptive parents, Harriet understands the losses felt by her clients who are affected by infertility. She enjoys working with couples, helping them to solidify their relationship and in helping children to heal and to grow. Working with couples and families, Harriet helps reinforce attachments and helps family members with anxiety, depression or anger. She helps family members to trust each other and to understand each other’s needs. Harriet completedher Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Communications at Queens College (City University of New York) and her Master of Science (MS) in Mental Health Counseling at Nova Southeastern University.For over 20 years, Harriet worked with several programs affiliated with the Florida Department of Children & Families and with the children who experienced abuse and/or neglect. She taught classes in MAPP (Model Approach to Partnership in Parenting), ACT (Adoption Competency Training), and in PIP (Partnership In Parenting) regarding LGBTQ issues. Children express their needs through their behaviors, many of which their parents might find challenging. Cultivating a more caring and nurturing homelife, Harriet helps children heal from their Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). She works with families in understanding the different ethnic and cultural issues both in their home and in their community. Harriet understands discord that can exist with within the family and how everyone can be affected. With her compassionate nature, Harriet works with her clients in creating, and maintaining, a more loving and supportive home environment.
