My Approach to Helping
My compassionate approach to therapy allows clients to find comfort in an honest therapeutic relationship, in order to achieve their personal goals for healing. I work to create a non-judgmental and supportive environment that promotes an individual's personal strengths and innate ability to resolve his or her own life struggles. I am particularly interested in the dynamics of families and the impact they have on an individual's relationships and schemas. My intention is to gain an understanding of clients' patterns of behaviors and use my training and intuition to guide treatment and establish therapeutic goals.
My interest in nutrition often influences my understanding of mental health and well-being, as I recognize the importance of physical health and its effects on one's thoughts and emotions. I am formally trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy through the Linehan Institute, and use my knowledge of DBT to provide practical life skills to my clients in the areas of mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. I specialize in providing services to clients who struggle with depression, anxiety, Borderline Personality Disorder and substance abuse issues.
