My Approach to Helping
As a seasoned therapist with a background in school counseling, I bring a wealth of experience to my practice. My approach is grounded in empathy, and I utilize a variety of modalities, including EMDR, CBT, Person-Centered, and Solution-Focused therapies.
In sessions, I’m joined by Ghost, my therapy dog, creating a relaxed environment, particularly beneficial for children. Together, we provide a unique and comforting experience.
I put a high priority on maintaining professional training and using evidence-based approaches to ensure I provide good care. My educational background also supports my ability to provide high-quality therapy. I am credentialed as a Licensed Professional Counselor for the state of Texas. I have a Bachelor’s in Business from Texas A&M University and graduated from UCCS with a Master’s degree in Counseling. I am also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional.
Ghost and I are dedicated to supporting children (8-12), college students, adults (18-30), and families through life's challenges.
More Info About My Practice
I have been developing relationships with children and young adults through work and volunteer opportunities for 14 years; it is truly one of my main missions in life. My experience and background includes working as a school counselor for Title 1 Elementary schools, and Montessori schools, and working as a therapist in private practice. I had the privilege of growing up in Southlake schools, and I understand the unique challenges students face here.
Alongside my work with elementary-aged children, I enjoy supporting college-aged young adults as they work through the challenges of life transitions. I am equipped to help with the struggles of anxiety and depression, and can help with the complicated world of family and relationship challenges as well.
I take pride in my ability to develop safe, empathetic, and trusting relationships with my clients, regardless of age. I am grateful every day for the opportunity to support my clients through their challenges.
With my therapy dog Ghost, I provide animal-assisted therapy in each session
How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist
Growing up, I went through many difficult situations, including being a child of divorce, experiencing grief and loss, seeing relatives suffer from PTSD, dealing with bullying and social anxiety, and using overeating as an unhealthy coping mechanism throughout. These experiences give me a relatable perspective and strong empathy for those dealing with struggles, especially kids and college-aged students.
My family made use of counseling to help us all out when things got tough, and I truly appreciated the experience. It piqued my interest in therapy, and being a therapist. The extra support I had because of therapy made a clear difference for me, and I liked the idea of offering that to others as well. When I got to college, I eventually shifted my focus to counseling, and have never looked back.
