Southlake is a city in North Tarrant County, Texas. It has a land area of 23 square miles. Southlake is considered one of the safest places to live in America. 

Southlake has 31,000 inhabitants. The number of residents increased by 17% from 2010 to 2016. Ninety-seven percent of people in Southlake are American citizens. 

Foreign-born people make up 10% of the population. The racial composition of Southlake is 80% white, 8% Asian, 6% Hispanic, and 3% black. Eleven percent of Southlake residents have a native language that is not English. Around 1,000 Spanish speakers and 300 Chinese speakers live in the city.

People in Southlake tend to be more affluent than other state residents. The median household income is $189,400. This is over three times the average household income across Texas ($54,700). In Southlake, less than 3% of residents live below the poverty line (compared to 16% across Texas).

Mental Health in Southlake

Southlake is creating a Health and Wellness Master Plan Committee to help residents enjoy a higher quality of life. A key focus of this plan is the community’s mental health. The committee will be responsible for evaluating the current mental health situation in Southlake. It will also make recommendations to address current and future needs. All meetings with be open to the public.

City officials have also recognized the impact drug use may have on work performance and health. In the name of creating a safe and drug-free workplace, potential employees of the city must agree to a pre-employment drug screen. The city of Southlake will not hire any person who is found to be abusing alcohol or using drugs not prescribed by a physician.
