My Approach to Helping
Amanda Clerkin is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 20 years of experience. She is passionate about helping people work through forgiveness, guilt and shame, and life transitions. She is clinically trained to work with individuals, families, and couples and specializes in anxiety, depression, substance misuse, and relationship and family issues. Amanda completed her Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Texas-Austin. She started out her career working with children and families and spent several years working in the addiction field, helping people overcome difficult relationships with alcohol and other drugs, and taught classes to parents in recovery. She has extensive experience with both anxiety and depression. Amanda is also a mother of teenagers and has both professional and personal experience helping young adults navigate difficult life changes. Amanda utilizes dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing (MI), functional family therapy (FFT), and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help her clients. Taking the steps to get help can be overwhelming, especially when life feels out of control. Amanda has a warm, genuine, and down-to-earth approach to help you feel less overwhelmed right away. Her focus is on making sure that you leave each appointment with a concrete plan, and something to work on each week so you can replicate the good things that happen in therapy in your everyday life. Schedule an appointment with Amanda to start on the path of regaining your strength and serenity.
