My Approach to Helping
I believe that if you are reaching out for counseling you are taking their first step towards a life full of wellness and joy. Though you may approach counseling with apprehension and uncertainty, I hope to create an environment that makes each session approachable, uplifting, and part of a well-balanced life. I practice from a holistic approach that values your natural talents and emotional strengths. Counseling sessions often focus on what your thoughts and feelings are about a situation in your life, and how these thoughts and feelings can be used to find a path and solution to your goals. The therapeutic relationship is vital for success and I strive to build a strong and supportive bond with my clients that fosters and grows their goals. My love for counseling comes from extensive experience working with victims of crime as an advocate and trauma informed therapist. I love working with children and youth (ages 6-18) as well as first responders who may be struggling with the stress and trauma their job entails.
More Info About My Practice
The services offered by Whole Home Counseling are designed to meet the client in their most comfortable environment in their home. I do not have an office location and come to you.
Additionally, I am certified in Trauma Focused - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and would be happy to discuss if this modality will help you meet you or your child's treatment goals.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I have extensive experience working with children and youth who have experienced a traumatic event - sexual or physical abuse, witness to homicide or other traumatic death, or trauma from a medical event. Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a modality of treatment that addresses common symptoms of PTSD and teaches children to be able to identify and scale their feelings, proper use of coping and relaxation skills, and how to process the traumatic event they have experienced. I am certified in Trauma Focused - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and would be happy to discuss if this modality will help you meet you or your child's treatment goals.
With this experience I also do a lot of work with children and adults struggling with grief - whether it be from a traumatic event or loss of a loved one or pet. I am able to apply a lot of the the skills and methods used in TF-CBT to help first responders who may need help managing the stress related to their helping professions.
On the Fence About Going to Therapy?
Who isn't? It's hard to think about opening up the darkest spots in our souls to a stranger. I understand that and will work with you or your child at a pace comfortable for you. 90% of therapy is about building a relationship with your therapist that fosters a level of comfort to confront those things you are struggling with. I strongly encourage you to call and chat with me on the phone for a consultation. If I am not the best fit for you or your child's needs I am more than happy to help you find a referral to a counselor who is. My main goal as a clinical social worker is to help people find the help they are seeking, even if it is not through my practice.
