Mental Health in Frisco

In 2010, the Frisco Police Department implemented the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Program. The program’s objective is to help police officers provide a professional, humane response to Frisco residents who have mental health concerns. Police officers may volunteer to become CIT-certified. The 40-hour program includes lessons on mental health diagnoses, psychopharmacology, and crisis de-escalation skills.

When the Frisco Police Department receives calls about a resident with mental health issues, the calls are dispatched to a CIT-certified officer. This practice helps ensure that all Frisco residents are treated with care and that police respond appropriately to the situation.
