Thanks for taking time to read my profile. I'm Scott Haartman, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. My goal as a clinician is to provide the best possible therapy to the individuals I work with. To me, this means adherence to all legal and ethical standards, a strong emphasis on protecting your confidentiality, and working collaboratively with you to determine your ideal goals and outcomes. I'm proud of my widely inclusive approach to therapy, and am kink and LGBTQ friendly.
I describe my style as friendly, empathetic, and direct. But bottom line, I have a high degree of respect for anyone willing to do the hard work of seeking change. It can be uncomfortable to examine our problems, much less share them with another person, so I always try to appreciate just how much work you're putting in each and every session.
I utilize a variety of talk therapies, expressive art, and EMDR to treat a wide range of issues, although I tend to focus on treating problems related to anxiety, fears / phobias, and survivors of traumatic experiences, including victims or witnesses of crime, accidents, natural disasters, military personnel / first responders, or neglect / abuse.
EMDR is a powerful tool and I have a passion for helping survivors get past their experiences and back to living life. I also welcome the chance to work with people who simply want to see positive changes in their life. This includes depth psychology for those who wish to understand themselves more fully, as well as peak-performance coaching to help anyone perform at their maximum potential.

More Info About My Practice
I've chosen to work outside the managed care system to maximize my ability to protect your privacy and confidentiality, but I'm happy to provide the required documentation if you wish to seek reimbursement from your insurance policy or employer. I'm also pleased to offer sliding-scale rates to a limited number of clients who may not otherwise be able to seek treatment. I invite you to visit my website for details about my practice policies and pricing, or contact me directly!
Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed
I believe the opposite is true! I think we've all had the experience of noticing when someone we know ignores those complications life throws at everyone from time to time. It may even be tempting to deny they exist, or assume that with time they'll simply pass. But I believe it's often fear that keeps us from making changes, even if those changes would help improve our lives. Having the strength and honesty to recognize it's time to take action is no small thing, much less taking that first, scary step. I deeply respect anyone who has the bravery to take that step, and am proud to be a support when you do.
Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance
Trust is the cornerstone of therapy. Trusting your therapist enables you to consider a new perspective, accept support, and give life to our innermost thoughts and feelings, perhaps for the first time, to another individual. Without trust, it's far too easy to continue feeling alone in your problems. It's my goal to foster a strong alliance with the people who entrust me with their thoughts and feelings, and a privilege when their trust in me is earned.
