Each phase of life presents new opportunities for learning. As a caring and thoughtful clinician, my aim is to provide the support and nurturing you need to begin the process of growth towards optimum potential and the authentic you. This process often involves the creation of new neural pathways that allow your body and mind to heal and restart anew. I believe that no one understands your experience as well as you do and that real growth and positive change are most possible when a person feels safe and supported. I provide an honest, sincere, non-judgmental and personable environment to nurture the change you want in your life.
Autism and Asperger's are my specialties. I have over 16 years with this population. Prior to becoming a therapist, I was a software programmer/tester so I understand the demands of the tech industry. In my social confidence groups (available for children, teens and adults) you will skills to navigate our ever-changing social world. The groups are intentionally small (no more than 4 in a group) and carefully selected to ensure a good fit for all. Rates for groups are much lower than individual therapy. Working with a group of peers provides natural opportunities to practice effective listening, cognitive flexibility, shared perspective, persuasion and reasoning skills.
Summer day camps also!

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
Some of the issues I am most skilled at helping resolve are depression, anxiety and panic disorders. I particularly enjoy helping people navigate life transitions. Autism, Asperger's and Anxiety are my specialty areas. I have over 16 years of clinical experience with Adults, Teens and Children on the spectrum. Social Confidence Groups for Adults, Children and Teens are held weekly and run as camps in the summer. The groups are typically 2-4 individuals per group and carefully selected to ensure a good fit for all. We combine games, mindfulness exercises, music, movement, visual arts and theatre improv skills towards the goal of improving social communication and social interaction skills in small group settings with same-age peers. Direct instruction as well as teaching opportunities that arise spontaneously during the course of the sessions shape the behaviors necessary to navigate an ever-changing world of social exchange.

Had a Negative Therapy Experience?
One of the first things I do when I meet a potential client is to check in on what worked or didn't work in their previous therapy experiences. There is no reason to waste time, money or energy on an experience that is unsatisfactory. I want your experience in therapy to be a positive one.
Theoretical Influences that Guide My Work
Each time a story is re-told, new neural pathways are created in the brain. As children and as adults, events happen that we are sometimes not able to understand at the time but stories of those events are stored in our brains anyway. Those stories guide our minds and bodies to adapt in various ways. Sometime the stories are confusing or traumatic and can cause imbalances in how we deal with life's stressors.
Interpersonal neurobiology, a term coined by Dr. Siegel in The Developing Mind, 1999, guides the underpinnings of my practice. The theories are based on science but not constrained by science meaning the research of neuroscience allows me to explain the mind and the body to you in a logical, coherent way that can serve to guide the techniques you will learn in our sessions.
