Choosing a therapist can feel complicated. To give you a sense of what it would be like to work with me, my style is non-judgmental and practical. I?m gentle and engaged, and I respect your intelligence. Clients say they feel comfortable with me, making it easier to explore personal material. There are times I believe it?s important to quietly listen while you explore issues in depth. At other times, I think with you to help you grow and solve problems. I?ll also encourage you to apply what you learn in your daily life. In general, I?ve found that the people who connect with me and persist to achieve good results are actively engaged in their healing process. Many like to read and learn and enjoy my teaching approach.

My theoretical orientation is integrative, combing different approaches, including.

1. Depth therapy including dreamwork, object relations, transpersonal, psychodynamic and Jungian
2). Biopsychosocial + spiritual
3. Brief therapy, including cognitive-behavioral and solution-focused therapy.
4. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to heal PTSD and emotional trauma
5. Social learning theory
6. Psychoeducation
7. Medical psychology

Although experienced in crisis management, my practice focuses on people who can reliably and safely cope with their needs and want to go deeper for more thorough healing and self-knowledge.

More Info About My Practice

People often find me through my writing, including some articles published here. Please see my mobile friendly website for additional articles.

I am licensed in Washington state and in California. I serve California clients who have worked with me and are appropriately helped via teletherapy.

Because people have differing abilities to pay for therapy I offer a sliding scale.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

Find a therapist you find it easy to talk to, just as you would with a new friend. A therapist isn't your friend, of course, but you're selling yourself short if you don't choose someone with whom you have personal rapport -- even if this means interviewing many therapists to find one who's a good fit.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

Absolutely! Life experience is an opportunity to learn or become more isolated and defended. And learning goes deep if someone has had their own struggles. I know what it was like to sit in front of an older person with all those credentials and how difficult it was to talk about areas where I felt most ashamed, helpless or vulnerable. Seeking therapy is an act of courage for many people. For those of you who want to know more about my personal background and past struggles, please visit my web site.

Groups I Work With

I am an ACISTE certified mental health practitioner, a member of their board of directors, and involved in helping certify psychologists and psychiatrists for ACISTE. ACISTE is the American Center for Integrating Spiritually Transformative Experiences. We are a support and referral network for people who have had such experiences. For example, someone can have a Near Death Experience (NDE), an Out of Body Experience (OBE) or Kundalini (energy) symptoms. They may not have a context for these. ACISTE helps people put those experiences in context, integrate the emotional impact of them, and build a support network, including medical practitioners who will not discount one's experience or pathologize it.

I work with writers, artists, musicians, creative people, professionals, executives, couples, spiritual seekers, alcoholics, addicts, ordinary folks, intelligent people.
