Marriage & Family Therapy, Counseling, Psychotherapy
I'm a licensed professional.
LCSW - 0000175
LMFT - 0000118
My current focus has been on working with couples and individuals touched by betrayal. In the past ten years I have noticed an uptick in emotional and physical infidelity. As a 35 year member of the American Association of Marriage and Family therapy my mission has been to assist couples in understanding the two sides of all issues and the communication skills necessary to keep problems from escalating. Recovering addicts and families of addicts were my first specialty. I created a Family Program for S.Miami Hospital Addictions Program in 1981-84. I trained other professionals to be counselors in this field at the Chemical Dependency Training Institute of the University of Miami. My family has been touched by addictions so I have particular empathy for the stressors in creating a healthy family dynamic in the individual and couple. The primary predictor of success in therapy is the trust an individual entering therapy has for the particular therapist they choose. Together, clients and I create goals to move out of stuck positions which may be frustrating. These points coupled with my varied professional and personal experience are valuable assets that help us get to the core of the issues at hand.
Psychotherapy helps clarify your conflicts and assists you in making better decisions. You may come in muddled about what to do about your relationship problems and get direction that relieves stress and therefore leads to improved overall health. Research shows that people generally get more pleasure out of life after therapy. Therapy gives you a place to discuss issues that trouble you with an experienced professional who is unbiased and honors the code of confidentiality.
