My specialty is in coping with emotional overload. If you feel overwhelmed by anxiety and stress, anger, or depression, I can help you begin to manage your emotions and access the healthy, rational, and calm part of your mind. Do you ever feel so overwhelmed that you "can't think"? My practical techniques frequently begin to help within the first session.
In addition to individual psychotherapy, I offer pre-marital, couples, and pre-child counseling. I have worked with issues of self-esteem, life transition, career stress, family and interpersonal conflict, LGBTQ+ challenges, among many others since 1988. There are some essential conversations that people should have with themselves and with significant others before making major life decisions, such as a relationship commitment or the decision to become a parent. I believe my experience can be helpful in these areas.

A simple understanding of the interaction of mind and physiology...that is, how your brain chemistry effects your moods, and how your thoughts and self-care effect your brain chemistry. I have found this information to have powerful positive results that often begin to relieve distress immediately. Luckily, the information is easy to apply and does not require university study! My clients and I use it everyday.
An insight into underlying motivations...that is, how the defenses you developed to cope with challenges in childhood helped you then, and may hurt you now. You may choose to explore and discover the exact circumstances that created hurtful patterns, or you may choose to just identify what's not working and change it. This is entirely your choice.
In my years as a psychologist, I have found that we all have so much in common. I have experienced many of the painful aspects of life that my clients have experienced. At times, I have sought and greatly benefited from my own psychotherapy. The practical tools for emotional balance and increased effectiveness that I offer my clients are tools that I use everyday and that have made my life so much more peaceful and joyful.
