My Approach to Helping
I am here to support your well-being. I strive to help people connect with their inner self and wisdom and provide tools to help them increase the hope, joy, and happiness in their lives. I customize treatment to each individual client and use different approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Brief Focused Solution, Trauma Based Therapy, Person-Centered, and Eclectic Approach. I have extensive outpatient clinical experience (20 years +) and 15 years of private practice. I received a scholarship and graduated with honors receiving my Ph.D., specializing in Human Development Psychology. My dissertation was on Domestic Violence. I also attended California State University, Long Beach for a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy and completed a thesis on ADHD and Learning Styles.
I treat depression and anxiety and severe behavioral health issues. I have four years of experience working with the military and helping treat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I was also embedded with a Battalion of Marines and Army, helping them to cope with work and family stressors, for three years in Hawaii and California. While in practice, I have held an academic position teaching graduate students and supervising students to become therapists themselves. I was the Director of the Counseling Center for 10 years where I taught courses at the Chicago School of Psychology in Irvine. For many years prior to this, I worked as a Teacher, Special Education Teacher, and Family Support Coordinator for San Juan Capistrano and Torrance Unified School District.
I have lived on six different continents and visited over 70 countries which allows me to see things from a multi-cultural perspective as well. I understand the ethnic needs, concerns, and cultures of people with diverse backgrounds and respect and know how to work with these diversities.
