My Approach to Helping
My approach is strength-based, utilizing elements of Narrative Therapy (encouraging you to relate your own story), Reality Therapy (figuring out what works best in a given situation), and bibliotherapy (book recommendations) and journaling for those who enjoy using those modalities. I find that people frequently do best with someone who helps guide them through their process so they can best find their own unique solutions.
One favorite tool of mine is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which is good for speeding up the processing of traumatic memories, to a point where they no longer take over your life. You can read more about EMDR on my web page,
Coming to counseling does not need to be a long term commitment; as a client, you have the power to work on your issues and reach the speediest possible resolution.
More Info About My Practice

I work especially well with trauma, grief, abuse recovery, and life transitions.
My Role as a Therapist
A "top-down" approach does not appeal to me. You are the expert in your own issues, and I see my role as facilitator. I truly enjoy hearing people's stories. Those stories make each of us unique, and often contain a path to resolving the issues at hand.
My View on the Nature of 'Disorders'
Seeing everything as a disorder feels weakness based to me: I have far more success helping people find their own strengths. People often come to counseling due to feelings that are a perfectly normal reaction to an abnormal situation. My primary focus will always be on the individual in front of me, not a diagnostic label assigned by someone who has never met that client.
