My Approach to Helping
Your Journey Begins with a Single Step. Whether this is your first experience with therapy, or you have some previous experience to draw from, I welcome you, and commend you for taking the first step in the process. Choosing a therapist can be a daunting task, and I believe that finding that right fit is an essential part of your journey. I place great value on the therapeutic relationship and will strive to earn your trust while fostering a relaxed, empathetic and supportive environment. I take a collaborative approach with my clients and will work at a pace that feels comfortable to you as I appreciate just how challenging this work can be. I work primarily with adults and see individuals as well as couples in my practice. Whether you are feeling anxious, depressed or just feeling stuck in your life, I will seek to better understand your unique challenges first, and then work with you to gain balance and obtain happiness in your life.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
One of my specializations is working with couples and I have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). My experience in this field began at the Veteran Affairs San Diego Healthcare System, where I was afforded the opportunity to provide individual and group therapy to veterans and their families. After completing my rotation, I came back to the V.A. and collaborated with the director to establish a Saturday couple's clinic within the Family Mental Health Program, where volunteered for two years. In addition to my work with veterans, I worked with active duty service members within Aurora Behavioral Healthcare System for several years. I am currently pursuing advanced training in AEDP, a model in which the therapist acts as the secure base for the client so that the client can work through overwhelming experiences. I have run groups in EFT, DBT and Codependency and I currently hold an 8 week course on overcoming codependency.
