My Approach to Helping

Many people believe therapy is like a visit to their primary care provider—little opportunity for interaction or experiencing each other in real life. Not in my office! I assure you that I am as real as they get. I want to help you achieve what you have been hoping for and work with you on life changes that overcome your struggles. It is especially important to me that we enjoy the process and that the experience is positive. Therapy does not have to be uncomfortable. Contacting a therapist can be intimidating, but I hope you will take a beat (and a deep breath if you need it) to call and see how we can work together.
Life is too precious and too short to surrender to the power of the bad stuff—unhealthy relationships, internal conflict, unresolved trauma—and all the negative emotions that come with it. I want you to be free of the anger, anxiety, depression, and despair! Freedom from emotional pain allows you to deal with life on your terms and find meaning and purpose in all the parts and pieces—family, friendships, work, spirituality, health, and wellness.
During my 17+ years working with individuals, couples, and families, I have helped them find healing and understanding in desperate situations. In addition to working with clients, I train other clinicians in the professional setting and offer community education opportunities. What can you expect from us? We can probably agree that everyone is unique, made up of an assortment of parts and pieces that are positive as well as challenging. The therapy team at Healing Arts North, PLLC tailors each therapy process according to your individual needs. We have had hundreds of clients over the years and every one of them has their own story to tell. Each person is as different as a northern Michigan snowflake and no two people have the same experiences. We understand that one size does not fit all. We are dedicating to helping you find the perfect fit!
People come to us for many reasons:

We are equipped to work with clients of all ages as well as couples and families. The agency offers both telehealth and in-person sessions (with universal health precautions).
During our first session together, we will get to know one another and begin to explore your challenges and hopes for your future. In subsequent sessions, we will set goals and explore different techniques and new ways of seeing and doing things, as well as handling situations, so that the challenges are soon easily managed or resolved completely. We will meet once a week, and during the week, you will have "homework" – something to think about or work on that helps you to achieve the peace you very much deserve. In some situations, we might find it beneficial to meet more than once a week, but this is determined by your personal goals and situation. This process is flexible and designed for you to achieve your goals and find your peace in the manner most comfortable for you, while building the foundation for lasting improvements. My Therapy Focus
There is no right way to handle trauma. Each individual moves at their own speed and has their own readiness to confront pain and suffering.
Unfortunately, there is no way to expedite the process of healing from trauma. The human condition is complicated and difficult, jam-packed with suffering. The good news is that the intensity of emotional pain always reduces with time. There are actually neurological studies that have found the ways the brain works to heal emotional wounds. The brain is geared for survival and is always looking for new threats and information, which means old experiences eventually route to the back of the line to direct your resources to what is new and potentially important.
No one can prevent the pain and suffering tied to the human experience, it is inescapable. We will all experience losses of immense proportions. What we can prevent, however, is suffering on top of pain.
We create a safe space to process those traumas.
The world can be a stressful place at times, and it helps to have safe spaces where you can be yourself and let your guard down to relax and replenish your energy. We endeavor to foster a sense of relaxation and emotional safety for you, as it's more difficult to manage the stress of criticism, negativity, and high demands when you're already compromised by stress. This can help you to build resilience and relieve stress when you need to.
