My Approach to Helping
I am a bilingual (English/Spanish) licensed marriage and family therapist. I've provided therapy for children, young adults, families, and couples for over 10 years. I help my clients manage a variety of mental health and behavioral challenges. My work experience and training have helped me quickly build comfortable, trusting, and open relationships with my clients, particularly my young adult, child, and adolescent clients. This relationship is a key ingredient in the recipe for overcoming mental health and behavioral challenges, enabling clients to actualize their potential.
I specialize in work with young adults, children, families, and adolescents. Over 10 years of training combined with over 19 years spent working with children in various capacities, especially the special education, foster care, and juvenile justice systems helped me hone this specialization. I use a variety of treatment approaches, tailoring my approach to the needs of each individual client. When clinically appropriate, I also incorporate a child or family's religious and spiritual beliefs. I believe that this approach is empowering, with the potential to strengthen the individual, thus increasing their skills at managing their mental health and behavioral challenges.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?
I tell my clients that pursuing therapy is a courageous choice. The decision can be a difficult one, particularly if you've never been in therapy. Your choice, though, signifies the beginning of a journey toward overcoming obstacles to achieving the life you desire. If you're considering therapy, but feel reticent about taking the first step, I encourage you to attend a few sessions. I also offer free consultations of 30 to 35 minutes. This is a great way to see how you feel about therapy and determine if I'm a good fit for you.
I've worked with many clients who've never been in therapy, and who have stereotypes about the process or view therapy as a stigmatized undertaking. I find that a few sessions often help new clients realize the benefits of therapy, and these clients begin to look forward to their sessions. You can end therapy with me at any time. Therapy is completely confidential, which means that no one else has to know about your being in treatment.
The Duration and Frequency of Therapy
The length of time therapy takes depends on your goals and approach to therapy. We'll collaborate to develop goals, evaluate your progress, and develop a treatment plan. My approach is client centered therefore I always welcome, as well as desire your feedback and recommendations. Ultimately you are in control of the treatment process, therefore the length of treatment is dependent on you. I typically work with clients once per week, but your needs may necessitate a different schedule, such as twice-monthly or twice-weekly therapy.
