My Approach to Helping

Life is full of ups and downs. Therapy helps you make sense of it all, and feel more equipped to manage the difficult times. Whether your difficulties are related to past experiences of pain or trauma, internalized negative messages you’ve received about yourself, anxiety about taking up space, or a need to be perfect or please others, I believe it’s never too late to start the journey of healing and self understanding. I specialize in trauma and PTSD recovery, and family and relationship issues. I also help folks with a range of symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, identity related stress, and academic or work issues.

As a feminist therapist, I believe that you are the expert on your life. I’m here to help you find ways to live more congruently with your values. I will help you let go of old stuff that’s no longer serving you, and try out new ways of coping and relating. I strive to create a non-judgmental space, where you can feel seen, heard, supported, and challenged.

Finding the right therapist can be a daunting process, and therapy tends to work best when both parties feel like it's a good fit. I take an active, collaborative role as a therapist, and have a direct and transparent communication style. If my approach resonates with what you're looking for, please reach out for a brief phone consultation.

My Role as a Therapist

I'm here to help you feel understood, supported, empowered, and (at times) challenged. I strive to create a non-judgmental relationship where it's safe to be yourself, and to learn more about what's most important to you in life. You are the expert on you, and I'm not here to tell you how to live your life. Instead, I consider myself to be a fellow traveler, with expertise in helping in you notice things about yourself and to better understand what's keeping you stuck. I take an active role in offering observations that I notice during our sessions, giving feedback, teaching coping skills, and helping you conceptualize the crux of what seems to be the problem. I offer a validating and supportive space to help you connect to your emotions and better listen to what your body is communicating to you. I work to help you develop more compassion and empathy for yourself. And I cheer you on as you try out new, more adaptive, and (at times a little scary) ways of relating to yourself and those around you. I work hard and take my role as your therapist seriously. I consider it a great privilege to get to walk beside you as you continue on this journey of personal growth and healing.
