My Approach to Helping
Do you feel that your emotions and responses to yourself and others are incongruent with your current experiences? Do you struggle to feel good enough? Do you have emotional experiences that don't seem to fit with what you are able to tell yourself logically about an experience? This is a common experience for trauma survivors as beneath the surface some aspect of yourself continues to relive these events as the brain and body continue to experience a sense of threat even when there isn't one. Through a trauma informed approach that rest on the values of transparency, choice, safety and trust I act as a guide to ensure my clients unlock strengths that enable them to manage distress more effectively while providing a more in depth exploration of your life narrative. You will begin to understand the lens in which you view the world, your core beliefs and channel your new found strengths to make the changes in your life that your desire. I believe that witnessing another person's story is a sacred honor and holding space for emotions should be held with the highest respect. Through EMDR, Somatic Experiencing and Internal Family Systems modalities you will develop insight into underlying factors contributing to your current distress while I provide guidance and experiential opportunities in session to move through trauma and integrate insights into a new way of being in your life and in relationships. Through a non judgemental approach you will begin to develop self-compassion and enhance insight into circular patterns that contribute to current distress. Through therapeutic reflections you will begin to develop a sense of your values and begin to live your life with authenticity. My hope is that you leave therapy feeling more capable to manage and regulate emotions and have a deeper sense of clarity of your unique needs and life patterns. You will not only gain insight but my approach to therapy is body centered and resource enhancing. Goals include calming the body and quieting the mind and healing from the past to enhance your experience of the present.
