My Approach to Helping
From the first session, I actively guide the client to discover and get rid of problematic emotional realities that were formed earlier in life, usually in childhood. A therapist's ability to deeply understand peoples emotional experiences is a crucial part of the process of Coherence Therapy. A wide range of symptoms can be broken down as (sometimes invisible) lifelong emotional wounds are discovered. Our goal is to do this with as much focus and speed as possible, although the ability to achieve that varies greatly from client to client.

I welcome people from the rich diversity of cultures and backgrounds that are represented in the Bay Area. Mention this specific website address when you write or call for an appointment and get $10 off the first session. When working with couples, I draw on a combination of Coherence Therapy and Non-Violent Communication, after first determining each person's goal(s), which often varies with each person.

More Info About My Practice
I began my private practice in 1979, and welcome women and men who come from the culturally and sexually diverse backgrounds that make the Bay Area the rich mix that it is. Feel free to call me (510-653-1384 between 9am and 9pm) with questions about whether I have experience working with your issues and class, race, sexual or religious background. While Coherence Therapy can be used successfully with a wide variety of issues, there are some that are better dealt with by a specialist (for instance, developmental disorders such as autism). If I believe you would be best served by someone with specific expertise, I will let you know.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

From the first session, I actively guide the client to discover and understand problematic emotional realities that were formed earlier in life, usually in childhood.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

It's challenging for people to start therapy for a variety of reasons: it's an impressive (or impossible) financial commitment, busy lives make it difficult to fit in to our schedules, it can be scary to meet a new person whom we're supposed to instantly trust, it can feel hopeless or overwhelming to tackle the issues we're facing, or the fear of falling into the abyss of greater depression can be overwhelming. Feel free to call me and discuss any of these issues, since sometimes just making phone contact can begin to help dissolve some of them.
