My Approach to Helping

The counseling relationship is unique, founded in respect and caring. I use a variety of theories to encourage personal growth and understanding. In counseling, a person needs to feel safe and accepted while exploring their choices, and a person may discover strengths and resources previously unknown to themselves. By offering unconditional acceptance and caring reflection of experience, a person in counseling is able to feel the support and encouragement necessary to make changes and continue toward a fulfilling and happy life.

 

 

My Role as a Therapist

Being able to talk about oneself and explore with a trained professional, the complicated inner world of the human experience, allows time for reflection, comprehension and the deepening of understanding and insight. By asking reflective questions and providing suggestions and interpretation, a psychotherapist creates opportunity and coaxes hidden strengths from clients, thus creating new hope and deeper insight, leading to self mastery and joy. My role as a therapist is very much like that of a coach. I am partly a teacher, yet I hold the belief that the student, or client, has the innate ability to self heal. My job is to clear away debris, help sort through the beliefs to choose the healthiest, and guide the client into their best life.
