What's My Approach to Therapy?

Relationships are where our greatest joys and our deepest hurts live. Whether it’s the relationship you have with yourself or the one you share with a partner, things can get complicated, painful, and messy. I’m Dr. Amanda Aguilera, and for over 17 years, I’ve helped individuals and couples navigate the distance between where they are and where they want to be. My work is built on a simple but profound goal: helping you come into "right relationship" with yourself and others. For Individuals Seeking Balance: My practice is rooted in Contemplative Psychotherapy, which means we start from the belief that you already possess an innate wisdom and "basic goodness." Whether you are struggling with anxiety, shame, or the complexities of being neurodivergent, my role is to give you the tools to access that wisdom. A Systemic and Power-Conscious Approach I specialize in the nuances of social power dynamics. For trans, queer, poly, and people with other marginalized identities, therapy must be more than just "coping"—it must be a space that understands the impact of systemic oppression and privilege. I provide a deeply informed environment where your whole self is seen. We’ll look at how external systems have shaped your internal world, helping you reclaim your voice and your personal power. For Couples Facing Betrayal: I specialize in working with couples who are navigating the heavy aftermath of infidelity and betrayal. These are some of the most difficult chapters a relationship can face, but they don't have to be the end. I provide a steady, confidential, and non-judgmental space to help you process the pain, address the conflict, and decide how to move forward—whether that means rebuilding trust or parting with clarity. No matter how complex your internal or external world feels right now, we can work together to find a sense of balance and self-awareness. I offer a free introductory, 30-minute session. Let’s see if we’re a good fit.
