My Approach to Helping
I provide therapy within a collaborative, directive and educational framework. I work to teach practical skills which people use on a daily basis to make life more fulfilling and less of a struggle. I primarily use a Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy approach which basically means that I help you change unhealthy thoughts and behaviors. We work together to identify thinking patterns, increase your control of your thinking, and improve your mood. We also work to change negative behaviors and make better choices to improve wellness. In Couples Counseling, we work on increasing healthy communication, decreasing conflict, working toward common goals. Counseling can help you start enjoying your life again!
My Therapy Focus
The focus of my work as a therapist is helping people identify choices in how they think and behave, and helping them learn strategies to make these changes. My clients find that through making a conscious effort to think and behave differently, they have more fulfilling relationships, learn to make themselves happy, and feel more in control. The therapy process also helps people gain insight into their own lives and see that they have many of their own answers.
On the Fence About Going to Therapy?
People who are new to therapy often tell me that they wished they had called sooner. Although most people try to deal with difficult life issues at first on their own, usually it is easier to work through difficulties when there is support from someone you can trust. During our initial session, we will discuss your goals, your motivation for therapy and what the process will look like moving forward. The initial session involves gathering information, but also gives you a chance to ask me questions.
