My Approach to Helping

I am a Child Mental Health Specialist with over ten years of experience working with children, adolescents and families. I work with children ages three and up in individual and family therapy, utilizing techniques such as play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, behavior modification and parent education. I have expertise in working with foster children, assisting families in the area of adoption, including post-adoption adjustment, and with helping children dealing with divorce. I also work with adults and couples. I am experienced with issues such as anxiety, depression, grief and loss, abuse and neglect, and social skills deficits. I believe that helping individuals and families identify and build on strengths is an important aspect of the therapy process. Parental involvement is a critical component of the child/youth's treatment, and I work to incorporate parents/caregivers into the treatment process whenever possible and appropriate. My goal is to help my clients improve their level of self-awareness, to increase their empathy and understanding of others, and to improve their ability to communicate more effectively. "
