My Approach to Helping

As one poet put it, "the one certainty we have in life is change". We can be thrust into change by unemployment, illness or losing a loved one. Sometimes these changes can be sudden and unexpected, while at other times we may have advanced notice. In seasons of transition, we may feel confused, depressed or alone. Whatever the circumstance, change presents various challenges in our journey and how we cope and face adversity can make all the difference. This requires the right kind of support and compassion to help us on our way. My approach to therapy is supportive and focused on your needs as a client. You will find a compassionate space to share your concerns and story. The therapy is holistic and incorporates a mind, body, soul and spirit framework to meeting your therapeutic needs. Therapy must be a sacred space where you can express your dreams, hopes, desires and fears. In this way, you are empowered to name your experiences free of judgment, which encourages you in accepting all facets of your identity.

More Info About My Practice

Invoices can be provided at the time of service. I accept major credit cards, debit, cash, checks and square cash. There is a 72-hour cancellation policy prior to your appointment. Appointments cancelled after the 72-hour time frame will be billed. Exceptions are made for emergency situations.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I am a trauma therapist. I work with female clients who have experienced trauma from sexual assault, domestic violence and childhood abuse. Trauma therapy seeks to foster an environment where restoration, healing and transformation can occur. The techniques utilized include: mindfulness, imagery, relaxation, self-compassion therapy, narrative therapy, tapping (EFT) and art therapy. I employ an empowerment approach to trauma therapy, as I've found that women who have experienced trauma and harm tend to experience a loss of their voice. Integrating the client's voice is tantamount to transformation and healing.

I utilize a multicultural approach to therapy. Multicultural therapy incorporates a cultural competency and sensitivity framework to counseling. Therapy should incorporate your values, traditions and perspectives, which may be derived from your culture of origin's norms and experiences.

I am a specialized populations consultant with The Emily Program. My approach to disordered eating is a mindful and intuitive one that encourages the client to embody their hunger and desires. Intuitive eating trains clients to listen to their body and incorporate honoring responses to their hunger
