My Approach to Helping

My clinical experience is in working with individuals, couples, and families. I generally describe my treatment approach as systemic. This oftentimes translates to working with more than just the client. Change can happen a lot faster, and have a greater chance of becoming permanent if I can affect the environment as well. When working with children or adolescents, I often work with the family as a unit -- helping parents to fine-tune their parenting skills. Relationship work frequently involves the participation of significant others. I have a common-sense approach to most problems, which focuses on self-care and self-awareness. I also try to provide clients with psychoeducational information that can be empowering and helpful in developing skills for coping with and managing symptoms.
