My Approach to Helping

Hello, my name is Bill DeFelice and I have been an independently licensed Mental Health (LPCC-S) therapist in the state of Ohio for over 25 years. I also hold my independent licensure for drug addiction (LICDC-CS) counseling as well. I graduated with my Bachelor Of Science degree in Secondary Education from the Indiana University Of Pennsylvania in December of 1990. I received my Master Of Education degree in Community Mental Health Counseling in August of 1995.

In all of the years that I have been doing this, there isn’t much that I haven’t experienced or heard about before. I am telling you this because I want you to feel relaxed and comfortable from the moment we talk or meet. One of the main struggles that people who are new to therapy have, is the feeling of being judged. I can assure you that this will not be happening when meeting with me.
Next, I would like to share the topics and therapy techniques that I have had the most exposure too. These include the depressive and bipolar disorders, as well as addiction, generalized anxiety, men’s issues, childhood disorders, parenting, and couplesrelationship issues. I like to use CBT, reality therapy, and motivational interviewing in my sessions. However, I am willing to use whatever techniques are needed to help you make positive change.

Finally, I would like to discuss how I perceive the counselorclient to be. I look at the relationship between client and therapist to be like many of the personal relationships that you will have in your lifetime. Two people working together to achieve a goal(s). The one major difference is that boundaries have to be strictly followed at all times. I see the roles of the two people to be very different. The counselor is there to provide clarity, direction, and support. The client is responsible for doing the hard work as far as the emotional part of it is concerned. I can promise you that I will never outwork you, but I will always meet you on whatever level you are on, effort-wise.
