My Approach to Helping
If you feel like you are drowning in the aftershocks of trauma, whether that trauma is from many years ago or just yesterday, it can seem like life will never change. Treading water gets to be exhausting eventually, no matter how good you are at handling the waves. There is hope for you - not just the hope of stopping and being still, but hope for flourishing, for restoration, for actually finding some satisfaction and meaning in your life.
When you’re treading water, there’s nothing to hold onto, so the first thing we need to do is get you some steady support. That’s where I come in. Together, we can create a calm, safe space for you to process your pain and regain a sense of groundedness. I’ll ask a lot of questions and echo back what I hear you saying so that you can be known, understood, and accepted; I’ll bring in tools from Emotion-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Interventions, EMDR, and Somatic Therapy to meet you where you are, empower you to reexamine the past, and help you grow skills and hope for the future. With the skills we work on, you’ll gain confidence that is realistic - confidence that you can cope with what life throws your way, because you can.
If you know you need to stop treading water, reach out to me. Together we’ll create a way for you to experience joy in the present and hope about the future.
