What's My Approach to Therapy?
Sometimes life gets overwhelming and exhausting. This can look like anxiety, racing thoughts, or difficulty following through with tasks. I use a natural processing approach to eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) to help you get through these stuck places. This can be effective if your symptoms are due to past stressors or if they do not feel linked to anything at all.
I can be a little geeky about this stuff, and I am happy to share the how and why of what I am doing.
I am able to provide several different modes of therapy, including traditional weekly, extended 90-minute sessions, or expedited (4-6 hour sessions).
I enjoy working with burnout and vicarious trauma within helping professionals like healthcare workers, fellow therapists, and veterinarians.
My Practice & Services
I am a licensed clinical social worker. This can be confusing to some, but my schooling and expertise give me the knowledge to be an effective therapist.
I am also certified in EMDR. In order to maintain my certification, I am required (I prefer to) continue extended education in the field and practice.
What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist
Let me start by saying not everyone can say they like their job. I am pretty happy I can confidently say I like what I do. I love holding hope for people when they can't seem to find it and giving them the power to feel this hope themselves when they are ready. I love to watch the transformation that can occur through the therapeutic process so that people can be happier, more confident, and their best selves. I love to watch people become the person they weren't sure they could ever be. I have to say I have a pretty cool job and get to interact with some pretty cool people.
On the Fence About Going to Therapy?
It can be pretty weird to go to therapy, and I can understand the weirdness of therapy for someone feeling skeptical. Yes, therapy can be hard, but it can also provide life changing results. Living the way you are is often exhausting. A little help can make it less exhausting. Still on the fence? Give it a few sessions and see what you think, you can also back out if you don't think it is for you.
