My Approach to Helping

It’s not that you can’t let go of the past, but that the past hasn’t let go of you. You may have tried venting, reading self help books, or meditating to no avail. I specialize in treating these conditions to help you get your life better and transform yourself into a newer and stronger you. Healing requires attention to your nervous system and the damage done to it that can be repaired even if it feels like you’re stuck and just have to accept things as they are. If you have undergone something life changing in a bad way, be it physical, sexual, or emotional abuse, a bad accident, or a medical procedure that was an absolute nightmare, you may feel like you’re trapped in a prison of your own mind. This can show up as depression, anxiety, having bouts of explosive anger, or PTSD. It does not matter how long ago the event was, because with trauma, time does not wash away all pain.

More Info About My Practice

I’ve been in practice for 9 years as of March 2019. I favor approaches that focus on the mind and body connection because that’s what I have seen get powerful results. Pain and trauma can be facts of life, be you do not have to suffer and feel trapped from them. I have a background in aviation as a pilot so I also enjoy treating aviation professionals and also know what it’s like to have a high pressure job that has extremely high demands.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

I love seeing a person transform into a stronger version of themselves that they never thought was possible. Many clients have said to me over the years after therapy ends that they wish they started years earlier. I also love seeing the ripple effect therapy has on a person. As they heal, the people they spend the most time around also notice the changes and often have their lives improve too.

My Therapy Focus

I use EMDR and Somatic Experiencing as my primary methods to treat clients. While we do primarily talk during sessions, there is a focus on how the body is reacting as we talk. This gets to the core of the issues to heal. It?s not enough to discover the why of how things happened, but the ok, now what do I do after I talk about this? Therapy should be something that eventually should end, and I want you to feel as if your life is vastly improved after we work.

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist

Do you feel seen, heard, and supported? Do you feel like you be your true self when you talk to your therapist? Therapy can be hard. We can feel enormous shame about what brought us to the office.

All the letters after a name do not matter if your therapist doesn?t provide a welcoming environment and is hard to open up to them. It is not that degrees do not matter, however they should not be the only deciding factor in choosing who you want to get help from. You may feel like an outsider or that no one can know what you are going through which can make it extra hard. If you are working with me and have concerns or questions, I invite you to ask them. If you are committed to healing, I will strive to give you my all.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

I was not always a therapist. Depression and anxiety run in my family on both sides and for a long time I was very resistant to therapy. I thought it made me weak, and that even though getting help should not be shameful, our society still has its judgments about therapy. This lead me to avoid therapy until I absolutely had to. It turned out to be the best decision of my life, and I wish I did it years earlier. I had to learn the hard way that not all therapists are equal, many have different methods, and sometimes you can just not have the right fit person for you.

I encourage anyone considering getting help to realize that if one therapist failed, another may succeed and that it may not have anything to do with you. In my experience, clients can see through bs and if a therapist has not done their own work, they are less likely to be effective.
