My Approach to Helping
The current crisis creates enormous stress and exacerbates whatever has troubled us all along. This is not a good time to be alone and therapy can be especially useful now. We can seek treatment to cope with stress, gain relief from pain and escape from troubling patterns. It can also provide more than expected: greater adaptability and resourcefulness, and a livelier relationship with one’s self and with others.
During dark times, especially like these, our difficulties are often compounded by feeling we have lost touch with our natural strengths. I have advanced psychodynamic training directed towards helping individuals re-connect with those strengths, and even to access unknown resources within themselves.
Insight can illuminate the path to discovery, reconnection and growth, but insight in a vacuum is cold comfort indeed. My clients describe me as earnest, approachable, warm, and, yes - insightful. I am not a remote practitioner, believing the work needs to be done in a companionable, accepting space with someone who is truly present.
