Some of the main reasons people choose to seek counseling or wellness coaching are because of a circumstance they find themselves in, a decision they need to make, and/or need clarity around their thinking or clarity regarding their emotions, etc.

When faced with any of the above, what keeps us stuck is our thoughts. If we could look into our minds, it probably would look like the chaotic mess of wires all knotted up behind your TV set for cable, video game players, speakers, etc - one thought inter-twined with another, connected to another. Who would feel clear with all of that going on? The more we think about what to do, where to step, what direction to take, the less clear we become.

If I was counseling/coaching you, I would ask about your thinking and the feeling that is connected to that thinking. I would ask you, "What action does that feeling drive you to take?" Most of the time the answer is nothing - no motivation or not knowing what action to take. Then I would ask, "What is the result of your inaction, your being stuck in that thought and the presumed feeling of safety of inaction?" Most of the time it is a lack of clarity. Your brain stays confused. Why? Because it feels safer that way. Most of us who are unclear, feel uncomfortable and are hesitant to make a choice to act.

When you make a choice to act, you may not feel 100% clear and confident in that choice. Most likely you will start second-guessing yourself. Your inner critic will start with the negatives. You will doubt your choice. I also know as you choose to take one little step forward, as uncomfortable as it is, you will have started to shape your result, and one baby step at a time will lead you into clarity and you'll slowly become unstuck.
