My Approach to Helping

I'm so glad you're here! Counseling is a collaborative conversation with me. What are your best hopes for our conversation? My role is to work collaboratively with you to support outcomes that we discover will help you feel healthy, whole, and hopeful. I value your voice and feedback, and will work to establish a safe, trusting, therapeutic relationship. Bring anything to our conversation! Shame and secrets can keep us feeling sick, so let's talk about it. Whether you are simply looking for someone to talk to, learn more about keeping a relationship healthy, are really struggling, or not sure what you may need, I’m here to be an empathetic listener and non-judgmental support.

All clients are welcomed and affirmed! However, working with kids (5 and over), adolescents, and older teens in transition is my jam! My experiences include helping youth heal after traumatic experiences, working with youth involved with the court system or at risk of involvement, children starting over after home removal, death, or other reason, and emotion regulation. Play, expressive arts, and therapeutic games, are just a few approaches I utilize to help youth feel comfortable, and safe to open up. The importance of family participation with children is invaluable as well, so caregivers and families are invited to participate throughout the therapeutic process.
Other specialty areas I enjoy working with adults around include substance abuse, trauma, anxiety, depression, anger, sexual health & sex positivity, and psychoeducation. I also enjoy working with couples and families. Folks struggling with substance use, nicotine, ADHD, neurodiversity, or feeling like you may not quite fit into expected roles or norms, may also find my lived experience relatable. Educators, musicians of all backgrounds, adolescents, those struggling with loss (including pet loss,) women with chronic pelvic pain issues, or those with men’s issues may be comfortable with my approach. My background as a former educator for over a decade also created a special interest in life & career transitions, and career counseling at any age or life stage.

Change can be difficult, but also worth getting through the tough stuff and coming out the other side. I would be honored to support your mental health wellness journey and goals, so you feel present in your own life. You are warmly invited to see if I’m the right person to support your journey.

My Therapy Focus

My theoretical approach is integrative of existential, phenomenological, and person-centered, which means my focus is more about you as a whole person, and how each individual experiences things & finds meaning; less on diagnoses. Some modalities I am trained in and utilize include Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person Centered Counseling, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Trust Based Relational Interventions (TBRI). I am also a Certified Nurturing Families Facilitator and Clinical Trauma Specialist- Individual (CCTS-I.) My experience also allows me a variety of recovery options and approaches.
