My Approach to Helping
Hi there! I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate who provides counseling to individual clients. Beginning to look for a new counselor is never an easy process, so thank you for considering me! If you have any questions about whether I may be a fit, please reach out via email or phone via the buttons above.
I utilize an integrated model of counseling consisting of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Existential Therapy, and Attachment Theory. This means that I look at how your brain understands what is happening right now, and how life experiences over time contributed to the way your brain understands and reacts to the world. Each of our brains are unique, and I love helping people gain mastery over their inner experiences through this approach.
To begin the process of counseling, you and I will establish goals for our work together, and I will form a fluid treatment plan, which may change as our counseling progresses. I have found counseling to be most effective if we work collaboratively; I expect you to come to your sessions on time, and to do your best to talk about the concerns, behaviors, thoughts, and feelings that are bothering you. I see you as the expert of your life, which means that I see my role as that of a guide to walk alongside you instead of telling you where to go. Through this process I will provide you with tools and skills to manage and improve your mental health, and I will help you practice using them in a way that works for you.
I have training and experience in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, trauma-informed care and best practices, Attachment Theory, Polyvagal Theory, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I greatly enjoy working with young andor emerging adults, working professionals, differently abled individuals, and any or all intersections of the above. While I specialize in working with the above populations, you do not need to be a member of any of those identities to seek counseling from me. I love working with clients to introduce ways of understanding their problems from a biological standpoint, and to discover effective methods of coping with challenges. When we understand how you experience the perception of a problem in the moment, we can work together to meet your desired outcomes.
I identify as a monogamous heterosexual cisgender man, and a nerd relative to most of my “out of the office” interests. In my time outside of the office, I love to spend time with my partner and our two cats, cook various tasty dishes, do outdoorsy things, cheer on the Boston Celtics, or hunker down with a video game and a warm beverage.
