My Approach to Helping
Welcome. I always consider it a privilege to be considered as a potential therapist for new clients. I know it's an important decision to make and that it can be challenging to know who will be the right fit. I hope that in describing a bit about myself as a therapist, and how I work with my clients, I can give you a sense if we will be the fit that will potentially work well for you.
I became a Marriage and Family Therapist and Registered Art Therapist later in life, and bring with this a broad range of experience - as an enduring part of the work force, as a marriage partner, parent, and grandparent. In both my personal life and my practice, I consciously choose to be as authentic, accessible, warm, positive, accepting and curious toward the people who cross my path as I can each day. It is essential to who I am, and thus, what kind of therapist I will be for you. I do everything I can to provide my clients with a safe and nurturing environment to explore, discuss, discover and rediscover aspects of their lives, their selves, and their relationships. I know that each client has their own unique reasons for being in therapy - for some it will be your first experience, for others, it will not. The space belongs to you - I will respond sensitively to the work that you are ready to do, being an interactive part of the therapy process with you as your attentive listener, guide and advocate. I am rooted in a deep belief that regardless of circumstance, when people feel heard and understood, they have a greater ability to find greater meaning in their lives, in their relationships, and transform their life's challenges into strengths.
