My Approach to Helping

Welcome. I always consider it a privilege to be considered as a potential therapist for new clients. I know it's an important decision to make and that it can be challenging to know who will be the right fit. I hope that in describing a bit about myself as a therapist, and how I work with my clients, I can give you a sense if we will be the fit that will potentially work well for you.

I became a Marriage and Family Therapist and Registered Art Therapist later in life, and bring with this a broad range of experience - as an enduring part of the work force, as a marriage partner, parent, and grandparent. In both my personal life and my practice, I consciously choose to be as authentic, accessible, warm, positive, accepting and curious toward the people who cross my path as I can each day. It is essential to who I am, and thus, what kind of therapist I will be for you. I do everything I can to provide my clients with a safe and nurturing environment to explore, discuss, discover and rediscover aspects of their lives, their selves, and their relationships. I know that each client has their own unique reasons for being in therapy - for some it will be your first experience, for others, it will not. The space belongs to you - I will respond sensitively to the work that you are ready to do, being an interactive part of the therapy process with you as your attentive listener, guide and advocate. I am rooted in a deep belief that regardless of circumstance, when people feel heard and understood, they have a greater ability to find greater meaning in their lives, in their relationships, and transform their life's challenges into strengths.

More Info About My Practice

As a Registered Art Therapist, I am able to offer my clients this additional tool in my practice. It is not essential to participate in art therapy as my client, but I always make it available because of its proven strength in assisting emotional regulation, and increasing insight by accessing unconscious matter. In addition, art therapy is a wonderful form of creative expression, which can allow for a greater sense of well-being, increased self-esteem and a renewed sense of self.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I have a strong background in working with individuals and families who are struggling with other people's addictions. My own personal family of origin lead me to educate myself and to understand the complex effect that addiction has on the family system.
