My Approach to Helping
Are you needing support through a difficult life transition? I can help. I am experienced supporting both men and women through separation or divorce, counseling couples with difficulty connecting, addictions issues, military/veteran's issues, or diagnosis of chronic illness for yourself or a loved one. Life is hard..sometimes we need the support of an unbiased person to help navigate our way through life. The therapeutic relationship between client and therapist is essential to the healing process. I am compassionately curious about my clients, and am extremely passionate about my work. Together we will determine what is getting in the way of obtaining what you want...and work on breaking down those barriers.
More Info About My Practice
I have extensive experience working in the addictions field, whether you are struggling yourself, or have a loved one who is experiencing these issues. I also work as adjunct faculty at Portland State University, teaching in their Graduate Addictions Certificate program. I am also EFT Couples trained, and have clinical interest in working with couples with previous or current addictions.
What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist
I am so fascinated by what makes people tick, and what drives certain behaviors. I believe that the family we grew up in (family of origin) really shapes who we are; in order to work through these issues, an exploration of the past is sometimes necessary. This helps to identify any unhelpful core beliefs you may have about the world, yourself and others. I find that these unhelpful beliefs are often at the root of anxiety, depression, fear and anger. We will work together on identifying, and slowly changing these beliefs. The world has the ability to look much differently, depending on which lens we are looking through.
