What makes therapy work is the relationship and connection between the therapist and client, as well as the skills and technical expertise the therapist brings to the table. I am supportive, caring and committed to being totally present, meeting people where they are right now, hearing them in their own terms. Relationships between individuals, couples and families have become so stressful in these crazy-making times. I see my job as helping clients untangle life's challenges and assisting them in getting in touch with their own inner resources. I have extensive experience in working with really complex family situations. I assist individuals and couples in strengthening and repairing relationships, navigating through life's transitions and dealing with issues related to aging. I specialize in working with children & adolescents dealing with emotional problems and offer support and counsel to parents. I help children, adolescents, adults and families who are dealing with emotional pain due to anxiety, depression, stress, anger, grief and loss. My office is in Ojai, surrounded by beautiful oaks, and offers a supportive and calming environment in which to do important psychological healing work.
If you are here, you have probably done enough self-work to know insight alone is not the problem. You can explain your patterns. You understand your history. And yet something keeps repeating; in your relationships, your body, your choices. You are tired of talking about your life without actually changing how it feels to live it. I work with people who are psychologically minded and quietly dissatisfied with surface-level therapy. In our work together, I do not rush to reassure or manage symptoms. We pay attention to emotional patterns, defenses, desire, and the parts of you that learned how to survive long before you had language for what was happening. This is not about quick relief. It is about understanding what is actually driving the struggle. Therapy with me is active, relational, and honest. At times it is steady and reflective; at others it is direct and challenging. I will name patterns as they show up, including the ones that appear between us, because real change does not happen at a distance. We are not here to make you more comfortable with a life that does not fit you. We are here to help you live with more agency, integrity, and self-trust. This work asks something of you. It requires curiosity, tolerance for discomfort, and a willingness to be seen honestly. In return, it offers something rare: a deeper relationship with yourself and the possibility of living in a way that feels more authentic.
Hi, I’m Ashley Holmes, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and founder of Hope for Growth Therapy. I believe therapy should be a place where you feel safe, understood, and supported, while also being challenged to create meaningful change. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to your unique goals. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, life transitions, attention-deficit hyperactivity (ADHD), depression, or stress, we’ll work together to understand what’s keeping you stuck and develop practical tools to help you move forward. My goal is to help you build confidence, strengthen relationships, and create lasting growth, not just symptom relief.
If you find yourself at a crossroads and are finally ready to address some issues that have been on your mind, therapy can be a powerful tool to help you. Clients come to me with their most personal thoughts and feelings, which they sometimes find confusing or even scary. It is my job to help make sense of these feelings, in order to relieve suffering and help you lead a more satisfying and rewarding life. In sessions, I am warm, direct, and nonjudgmental. Connecting with you in a meaningful way is my top priority; I may be the psychology "expert" in the room, but our time together is interactive and conversational. My approach to counseling is based upon my knowledge of attachment theory, my years of clinical training and private practice, and my belief that healing in therapy is best achieved when a trusting relationship develops between the client and the therapist. Through this relationship, we are able to rewrite your personal story in a way that opens up your life to more possibility, clarity, and joy. Wherever you are right now in your life, that’s not where you have to stay. By reaching out for professional help, you’re taking the first step toward resolving current issues and moving in a more positive and fulfilling direction.
"Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?" - Mary Oliver I work with my clients to resolve whatever is getting in their way. My approach is generally mindfulness based, informed by attachment and family histories. It focuses on widening and deepening resilience and core strengths that are already there (even if it doesn't feel like it). Then you can meet life's inevitable challenges without getting knocked off your game. You can also make peace with your past and discover valuable resources that have been waiting for you all along. There's only one of you on the planet. Let's figure out why you're here and what your best life looks like.
Hello! My goal as your therapist is to create a space that feels safe and supportive. Whether you are having a particular difficulty with worry, feeling down, family concerns, or just need a safe space to show up once a week, I’m here to provide support in a way that specifically meets your needs. I believe that connection and trust are foundational aspects of a therapeutic relationship, and I will prioritize getting to know you as a full person instead of a list of symptoms. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I can understand how everyone’s life and experiences are unique. I have experience working within the community, and am particularly passionate about supporting you in wherever you are in your journey of identity and self-discovery. Whether you’re new to therapy or picking up where you left off on your therapeutic journey, I’m here as a place of support and compassion. Please feel free to reach out for a free 15-minute consultation. I look forward to meeting you!

You help everyone else, but who helps you? Anger, stress, conflict keeping you stuck? As you rise in your profession, you might find fewer people you trust, fewer available mentors to help you deal with the increase in responsibility and stress. And your friends and family may not really understand your challenges. For 30+ years, I've been helping professionals, and families understand the "why" of their struggles and the "what next" strategies that can work right now! If your important conversations become angry debates (when all your really wanted was to get your point across- to be heard), if anger, conflict, and stress are hurting you professionally and personally, let's talk about how I can help. I know that asking for help might feel like the hardest thing you've ever done. I also know that taking that risk could help you feel much better. If you're unsure about starting or returning to therapy, let's talk - then you decide! You only need to make that first call. Please visit my website for more detailed information about me and about my practice. Or - email or call me to schedule an appointment or to set up a complementary phone consultation. I look forward to talking with you soon.

Many of the problems that bring people to therapy are the result of using defense mechanisms to avoid facing uncomfortable emotions and conflicts. I help patients identify the defense mechanisms that they are using and overcome them so that they can lead better lives. This process is known as intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy (ISTDP), and there is a strong body of research to support its efficacy. I also use standard cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), hypnotherapy, and common sense to help my clients solve their problems and improve their lives. If you're interested in a different way of looking at or approaching your problems....Call me! :-) To learn more about my approach to therapy, please visit my website (link under my pic) or call me :-)
If you're feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, trauma, relationship stress, or major life transitions, therapy can provide a space to slow down, gain clarity, and begin making meaningful changes. Therapy is collaborative and culturally responsive, grounded in creating a safe and affirming space where you can explore your experiences without judgment. Informed by principles of liberation psychology and social justice, we explore not only individual experiences, but also how culture, identity, and systemic factors influence mental health. Therapy can be a place to process trauma, challenge internalized messages, and reconnect with your genuine self.
