Love Through Letters: Quotes to Brighten Your Valentine’s Day

Valentine Havanese puppy dogFor a day that professes to promote love, relationships, and romance, Valentine’s Day itself is certainly not universally loved. Many people, both single and attached, are offended by the obvious commercialism of the “holiday” and believe it cheapens the experience of love and relationships. Greeting cards, chocolates, flowers, stuffed bears—each gift, thoughtful as it may be, puts a price tag on feeling loved or appreciated.

Others, especially people who are single around Valentine’s Day, resent the pressure it creates to have a significant other. After all, the arrival of Valentine’s Day can bring into sharp relief the experience of being single.

But if love is really at the heart of Valentine’s Day, then it should be enough to give the gift of time and attention to those you love and care for—beginning with yourself.

GoodTherapy.org has compiled a selection of love quotes and messages about love, including the most important kind of all: self-love. We hope these serve as a reminder that beneath the rituals and love letters we’ve created to recognize Valentine’s Day, despite the commercialism and expectations it seems to create, the greatest gift we can give or be given in life is love, in all its many forms!

These are great, and speak so much to what love should actually be all about instead of the cookie cutter holiday that we have turned it into. I know that there will be many who are looking for the days of wine and roses but all I am honestly looking for is someone to love me for me, and that I can do the same for.

The above quote about loving yourself because life is awfully long to go through it with someone you don’t like, that realy spoke to me in a very powerful and meaningful way. I have realized that I have spent way too much time dislking who I am and the choices that I have made. I am the only person who can change those things, nnot the past but my present and my future and this is the inspiration that I needed to get started. Thank you

These all speak volumes, and it would be nice to see a roundup of inspirational quotes like this every so often that don’t necessarily have to do with love, just about anything or life in general. I hope that Valentine’s Day isn’t the only time that we take a moment to see something special in someone else, and that we also remember to take the time every day to see something special in us as well. But these really are great, and I think that as we see here, there will be a whole lot of readers who will be inspired or moved by something that they see right here.
