Everybody needs counseling at some point in their lives (including therapists). Counseling is a process in which you and your therapist work together to transform the negative experiences that have led you to seek out support. The past can't be changed but our reactions to past events can change dramatically.
A requisite for success is the forming of a solid, therapeutic relationship between you and an experienced, licensed professional. Sometimes, talk therapy alone is sufficient. At other times, a body-centered approach such as EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) in conjunction with talk therapy may prove more effective. This is especially true when the complaint bringing you to therapy is trauma-based. Trauma has been described as any experience that was non-nurturing.
My primary orientation is Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT ). Additionally, I am an EMDR therapist, certified by the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) and also formally trained in Brainspotting, which evolved from EMDR. Please contact me for additional information about these therapies.
You will be taught a stress reduction technique at the beginning of therapy and later learn simple mindfulness meditation if appropriate. I also explain the mind-body connection and how negative emotions can have a physical impact and therefore should not be ignored.
Locations: My offices are conveniently located in Long Beach on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, and in Torrance, CA on Wednesdays. Both locations have ample free parking.

More Info About My Practice
Insurance: Clients are asked to pay in full at each session. For those with a PPO plan, I will contact the insurer to determine coverage and submit documentation so that the client can be reimbursed directly by the insurance company, in accordance with the terms of his/her policy. If you are not covered by insurance and finances are presently an issue, I can work on a sliding scale with a limited number of clients. I cannot accept credit or debit cards.
Contact Information: Call me at (562) 618-8559 for additional information, fees, or to schedule a consultation. If you leave a message on my confidential voice mail, I will return your call within 24 hours. At present, my practice is limited to individuals over 18, couples of any sexual orientation, and groups. Please do NOT email.
