I provide a safe environment for my clients to explore what has brought them into therapy and place a high priority on sustaining that safety. You, like many people, may discover the need for change as a result of conflict or discontent. This can be a difficult time to meet a new person and tell that person about yourself. I hope to make that a little easier for you. But whatever brings you in, I feel honored to accompany you or your children or family members in finding resolutions to conflicts, or to develop greater skills or mindfulness in relationships with loved ones or building capacities in other areas of life.

More Info About My Practice
I specialize in trauma reduction, attachment and issues related to the loss of attachment figures: whether through adoption, divorce, for example, or temporary loss through hospitalizations or moves to other homes or communities. The loss of attachment figures can profoundly affect a child or adult for years if not a lifetime. Creating understanding and supportive ways to respond to the loss and help the child or adult to make sense of the changes in their lives are fundamental to recovering from loss, building resiliency and deepening the capacity to attach.
I am also comfortable in working with people of all ages around school and employment issues, whether there are social concerns or behavioral issues, I am comfortable in these fields and have extensive experience working in and with the schools.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I am very supportive of parents who find themselves in conflict with their child(ren) or their needs and want to change the dynamic so family life can be more fun and less work. I am very confident in my ability to work with wounded beings of all ages to help them heal. I enjoy play therapy with children as well as more structured approaches with both children and adults to help turn around negative behaviors, anxieties, depressions and related concerns.
Theoretical Influences that Guide My Work
I have loved the work of Carl Jung and the object relations schools...but I know that sounds fairly remote to many people. For the less theoretical and more "boots on the ground" influences, I would have to say those who specialize in trauma reduction and those who understand the importance of attachment, attachment losses have been the most influential. Holly Van Gulden, an adoption, attachment and trauma specialist, has been very influential, as has been Bryan Post, Heather Forbes, Daniel Siegel and Bruce Perry, to name a few leaders who specialize in trauma, loss and attachment. I have also benefited from the work of Dr. Shapiro, who developed EMDR, which I trained in. I am looking forward to more trainings in attachment, hopefully with Daniel Hughes, and in sensorimotor psychotherapy, which augments the body-focused work provided by EMDR, play and movement therapies, which I already utilize. I have realized that talk therapy alone is often not enough, and including the body in therapy to realize the reduction of distress is often critical.
