As a registered social worked, I help people resolve Post Traumatic Stress symptoms and childhood trauma. People who come to me have difficulty with nightmares, flashbacks, regulating emotions, sometimes feel too much, or feel numb, as well as use addictive behaviors to calm the nervous system. People who are distressed about their childhood and recognize how this is affecting their present life circumstances in a negative way also come to me. Many people who are coping with anxiety and depression also seek me out using EMDR as their preferred choice of treatment.

Families seek me out to learn strategies for parenting and containing stress within the family system. Families come to me to help their teens learn skills on how to cope with distress without turning to drugs and alcohol. I help to strengthen the marriage and relationships within the family system.

I also provide marriage and relationship counselling

I further provide consulting for parents who need help with their teen who is abusing substances or substance affected. Families who need mental health consulting also come to me to get a better sense of how to tackle mental health concerns with their teen.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I am known for creating and developing a group called Making Sense of Trauma (Phase One) which has successfully graduated 100 clients in the past two years. This group teaches about how trauma affects the brain and nervous system as well as teaches skills for dealing with triggers, flashbacks, and hyper/hypo arousal symptoms.

My Therapy Focus

I love watching people get well. I want to see to it that you move forward with your goals for coming to counselling. This is particularly why I am attracted to EMDR as a primary modality for healing trauma.. EMDR typically moves trauma out of the nervous system in a relatively shorter amount of time than talk therapy. I also use Cognitive therapy and DBT to help with depression anxiety. Further to working with individuals, I draw on Adlerian and systems theory when working with families. I also draw on Gottman and IMAGO theory for marriage and couples counselling
