Counseling, Psychotherapy, Mental Health Counseling
I'm a licensed professional.
Over fourteen years ago, I began my career working as an outreach counselor for a couple of battered women shelters. What I realized early on, was that most people have some history of trauma outside of the acute incident that they are seeking help for. Whether it's medical/surgical, a car accident, emotional, physical, sexual abuse, a fall, a sport related injury, bullying or something else, many times these traumas don't show their underlying emotional, mental symptoms until the person is experiencing major acute stress in her life. Often the symptoms can show up as depression, anxiety, panic attacks, lack of motivation, chronic illness, grief, lack of self-esteem, isolation, addictions, and eating disorders. The human body is an amazing machine that is very resilient, but over time and with multiple traumas, the body's nervous system can become highly sensitive and imbalanced. When the body's threshold has reached it's limit, it's difficult for the system to recalibrate and come back to normal. As a trauma specialist, I help and guide womens' nervous systems back to a place of equilibrium and calm. Through the integration of somatic-based therapies, such as EMDR, Somatic Experiencing and Brainspotting, the women that I counsel are often able to take their lives back, feel balanced and self-confident again. Their energy levels return and they are motivated to move forward in their lives.
